4. What is your most memorable cosplay and why?

Each of my cosplays have been special to me in some way, but I think that the costume that may be most memorable is GLaDOS from the game Portal because of the amount of creative design I could put into her. She posed some difficulties for me initially because I was trying to design a humanoid character from a non-humanoid source. She was the first costume that I made that got a lot of attention, which opened my eyes to a host of new possibilities for my work. I think she came out really well and helped give me self confidence in my creative abilities.

5. What is your next cosplay project?

I’m just starting on a cosplay of Sejuani from League of Legends, complete with a second person as the boar she rides.

6. Tell us about some memorable experiences in your costume or prop making.

In terms of prop making, my most involved project so far has been Orianna from League of Legends. I had never made armor before and I had to make all of the pieces fairly tight and form fit. Mostly, she was a huge engineering project and I had to figure out appropriate materials and patterns to get the effects I wanted. For instance, the ball she has floats and the two hemispheres are suspended about 1″ apart from each other. I ended up attaching fishing line between the ball and hand pieces to make the ball float. For the suspension of the two hemispheres, there is a structure inside the ball to keep them apart and tension wires on the outside to keep them together. I was also very excited when I figured out how to make the key on her back turn. The whole thing gave me quite a headache to make, but the end result was pretty great.

7. What are some advice you would like to give to cosplay newbies?

For me, attention to detail gives a costume that much more life. When making a costume, attention to detail and making the details look good can make a costume stand out.

And last but not least…
